Vocaloid Blog

I chose to talk about Vocaloid since I like it and I'm very familiar with it.   Vocaloid is a singing voice synthesizer software. It was developed through a joint research project led by Kenmochi Hideki at the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona, Spain in 2000. At first it was not originally intended to be a full commercial project. Backed by the Yamaha Corporation, it developed the software into the commercial product Vocaloid. Hatsune Miku's release was a major factor to Vocaloids general success in Japan and has more or less become and icon. The Japanese video sharing website called Niconico Douga played a fundamental role in the recognition and popularity of the software. Vocaloid has a huge fanbase full of fanarts and content creators. The software gave way to many others with the opportunity to create their own songs, covers, and music videos. Some songs that have taken over Niconico Douga and have made it to the western world including songs like: Story of Evil, Canta...

Performance Video

H u e s and Saturation : For this video I recorded myself playing around with paints, ink, lights and fire to achieve a certain visual aesthetic. I was originally going to have a narrative but had a hard time putting my feelings into words. I created the music with audacity + soundation. The audio was probably the hardest part for me since i’m inexperienced with creating music from scratch. Overall a fun project i’m glad I got to do.

Collage

Tried something different, had fun with colors and placements while trying not to go crazy. For this piece I took roughly 11 old pictures from my computer, scaled it to size, printed and put it together then scanned and brought it back to photoshop for final adjusting. I'm not used to this kind of work but it was interesting to see what pieces can fit where.

Grid Project

Image
Original Image:  Pixelated:  Project:          Cut out construction paper, used post-it notes to create perfect square then pasted it to the wall with double sided tape. Tried my best to keep everything aligned. Original was 17 x 17 (289) squares, cut mine to 16 x 16 (256) after I ran out of time, space and life. The most time consuming part was definitely matching all the colors to the paper.

Dido and Aeneas Essay

Joyce Atallah FMX 211 Art & Technology           Dido and Aeneas is a well known passionate and innovative Opera composed by the English Baroque composer Henry Purcell. It’s first documented performance was in 1689. His piece was based on the story of ‘The Aeneid,’ a poem by a Roman poet named Vergil. It tells a story of power, politics, love and heartbreak. The mise en scène in the Opera was especially excellent, everything seemed planned and placed purposefully which brought all the scenes together. Henry Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas was an important part in the chronology of Opera, and has continued to be popular hundreds of years later.          There are three acts in this Opera: Dido's court, The cave of the Sorceress/ A grove during the middle of a hunt, and The harbour at Carthage. The Story of Dido’s Aeneas starts off in Dido’s court, where Dido’s is fated to marry Aeneas in order to ease the tension between Carthage ...

Electronics

Smart Phones have become one of the most common means of communication. In the past anyone who wanted to contact someone else would have to physically deliver a letter and wait weeks or months for a response.  As time went on  several other ways of communicating surfaced such as a telegram, for example. Telegraphs were a " .. system of semaphores or tall poles with movable arms, and other signaling apparatus, set within physical sight of one another.   " Further down the road telephones came into the picture, followed by smart phones.  Phones created around the 1990's were always large and bound to one place, but as of today ..it has truly become mobile and portable. Smartphones have grown and developed rapidly over the past decade, which makes you wonder what can come to be in another 10 years.  Growing up with phones has also effected or lifestyle and dependencies. It gives you a sense of comfort to be instantly connected with friends or family, regardless...

Stop Motion

Image
For this project I created a series of images, and put them together to create an animation. For this Video I took the pictures off of my camera to achieve that 'stop motion' feel. I created this video for my own satisfaction. Took all my illustrations and added some light effects.

STAGE DOOR Blog: Comments

Video Link The Color Purple 1985 Comments: This was a good performance that really had my attention , It felt like it was filmed like a movie. The set up, environment, costumes, makeup and filming angles make this visually pleasing. The main woman singing also has a unique voice that lures you in and also compliments her appearance in the scene. You can feel a connection between the main singer and the woman at the table, makes you want to know more about the story. Video Link Comments: In the second video shown for The Color purple (the Broadway edition), we see a more modern spin on what seems to be the same story. The composition of the song being sung about half way through the video, is really well put together. I definitely prefer the songs in the Broadway edition, would've wanted to see another singing scene from the previous version for a better comparison. I do however, like the setup more in the 1985 version since it helps better set the mood in my opinion. Video...
